November 2005 Carnival Time in Nürnberg, Germany... and SoftMaker is crazy enough Thursday, November 10 2005 Nuernberg, Germany -- November 10, 2005 -- It's THAT time of the year again... exactly at 11:11 am on November 11, Carnival starts in SoftMaker's hometown of Nürnberg – world-famous in Germany. We don't care for Samba in Rio or even for Mardi Gras. We have something much better: The original Nürnberg Carnival! It offers something for everyone: silly speeches, weird dances, German sausages, and way too much Bavarian beer. It is customary to do harebrained things on the day Carnival starts. Following this tradition, we will slash prices of our PlanMaker spreadsheet, our MegaFont font collection, and of Nyditot Virtual Display. PlanMaker is a must for serious spreadsheet users - and at just $22.22 or EUR 22.22 a steal, too. Fully Excel-compatible and available for Windows, Linux, Pocket PCs, and Handheld PCs. For even smaller amounts of money, our huge MegaFont XXL font collection and Nyditot Virtual Display are on sale, too. This offer is valid for exactly one day, which is about as long as we need to come to our senses again. Wednesday, November 2 2005 November 2nd, 2005 - Spb Software House, the leading Pocket PC software developer, announces the Second Annual Spb Pocket PC Survey. The first survey, conducted in September 2005, provided extensive and priceless information to the whole Pocket PC community. Today's survey will be even more beneficial as it will allow us to gather and compile the most current information and then compare it to previous survey results. All statistical results will be publicly available immediately after the survey ends. All survey participants will be entered into a drawing to win an i-mate JASJAR. Spb Pocket PC Survey is a part of Spb's good will strategy to contribute to the Pocket PC community. This strategy also involves activities such as organizing the Pocket PC Developer Network website and developing the Spb Benchmark application. We are confident that the results of the survey will be both interesting and relevant to the Pocket PC community. -------------------------------------------- The survey will take place from November 2nd to November 16th. You can complete this survey now using the following link: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/support/survey.php With this survey we have a great chance not only to learn users' habits, preferences, needs, expectations and complaints, but to compare them with data obtained during the previous survey. What has changed? What has not? Will we find more ex-Palm users in the Pocket PC community? Do today's Pocket PCs satisfy people's needs?" - said Vassili Philippov, COO of Spb Software House - "Answers to these and many other questions will help us make our current and future products better. And, of course, the results of this survey will be of immense interest to the entire industry, to every user and every developer." Source: Spb Software House Final beta of the TextMaker 2005 for Windows word processor Tuesday, November 1 2005 Nuernberg, Germany -- November 1, 2005 -- A word processor that costs much less than Microsoft Word, is much faster than OpenOffice.org and is fully compatible with both of them -- this would be a characterization of TextMaker 2005 for Windows. German software maker SoftMaker announced the final beta version of its flagship product for Windows today. The beta is available as a free download to the public. TextMaker 2005 offers a feature set comparable to, and even surpassing, Microsoft Word 2003 -- including advanced features like AutoShapes, WordArt, and Track Changes -- but is more reliable with long documents, significantly less expensive, and works on multiple platforms: Windows, Linux, Pocket PCs (Windows Mobile), Handheld PCs, Windows CE.NET, Qtopia, and FreeBSD. The beta for Windows is available immediately from the company's web site at www.softmaker.com/english/tmw05_en.htm One of TextMaker's main attractions is its superior compatibility with the Microsoft Word ".doc" file format. Users won't find another word processor that is as capable of handling complex Microsoft Word files as TextMaker 2005. In fact, many of the new features in TextMaker 2005 have been designed with the goal of allowing TextMaker users to work seamlessly in Microsoft Word-dominated environments. TextMaker 2005 also offers compatibility with the open source office suite OpenOffice.org and the industry standard OpenDocument (OASIS) file format. Improvements in TextMaker 2005 include full Unicode support with special handling for Asian scripts, an AutoShape-compatible drawing layer, WordArt, tracked changes, objects anchored to paragraphs, better table handling, and a bibliography function. TextMaker 2005 comes with user interfaces in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hungarian, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese. The tentative release date of the commercial version of TextMaker for Windows is November 15. It will carry a suggested retail price of US$ 49.95 (49.95 Euro) -- significantly below Microsoft Word's list price.
