Approximately 500 Riverside physicians can use MData to obtain mobile access to important patient information, helping optimize patient care.

"The Treo 600, along with Sprint's high-speed data network and MercuryMD's MData, has enabled physicians to access patient information more quickly and conveniently," said John Stanley, senior vice president and chief information officer at Riverside Health System. "Sprint recognizes that mobile technologies are becoming increasingly important for enabling healthcare providers to deliver higher-quality patient care in a more timely and efficient manner," said Mike Werth, director of healthcare marketing for emerging and mid-markets, Sprint. "The wireless capabilities of the Treo 600 smartphone combined with MData's SyncEverywhere technology allow for fast access to patient data, which can lead to improved patient care."

Nokia Remote Camera provides a megapixel peek into your surroundings   Wednesday, September 22 2004

Nokia today announced a wireless home monitoring solution with an integrated motion detector, the Nokia Remote Camera. With the ability to capture megapixel-quality images and video clips with sound, even in low-light and outdoor conditions, the Nokia Remote Camera brings a new twist to remote monitoring. The device is expected to become available in the fourth quarter of 2004 in Europe, Middle East and Asia-Pacific, with the expected retail price of 450 EUR.

Combining a digital camera, GSM transceiver and MMS technology in the same unit, the Nokia Remote Camera can be used in a number places that need to be observed: including home, summer cottage, warehouse, or even a boat.

"The Nokia Remote Camera offers added convenience for those needing an extra pair of ears and eyes to observe their private property in a time-saving way," said Janne Jormalainen, Vice President of Mobile Enhancements Business Unit at Nokia. "The improved feature set includes a megapixel camera with zoom, video and audio capture, possibility for outdoor use and easy configuration via Bluetooth technology."

Consumers looking to add extra peace of mind to their lives will also find the Nokia Remote Camera both easy to install and convenient to use. The camera does not require a physical connection to a landline or to the Internet; all it needs is a regular main power supply and access to a GSM network. After inserting a SIM card, entering the PIN code and defining at least one user, the Nokia Remote Camera is ready for use.

The Nokia Remote Camera sends images or video clips with sound to an MMS-enabled handset or e-mail address when motion is detected, at pre-defined intervals, or when an SMS query is sent directly to the device. Users can also receive notifications when a minimum or maximum temperature has been reached, and can even view the temperature history for the past 24 hours as a graph.

Users can control the camera via text messages or by using Bluetooth wireless technology, and the extended user access allows more than one person to control the device. The Remote Camera Manager application provides an enhanced user experience via graphical user interface for those owning a Series 60 smartphone, such as the Nokia 6670, Nokia 7610 or the Nokia 6600. The Nokia Remote Camera comes with a stand for placing it on a table, as well as a wall or ceiling mount, and a clip-on shield for outdoor use.

Innovative design and appearance of next generation of Nokia mobile holders ideally adapted to suit interior fittings of modern cars   Monday, September 20 2004

The Nokia Mobile Holder CR-21 heralds a new generation of mobile holders that not only have attractive colours and a slim design but also are specially adapted to suit vehicle interiors. This new two-tone mobile holder keeps compatible mobile phones firmly in place. The phone can be released from the holder simply by pressing it down. This new holder ensures improved connection quality because the antenna coupling to the outside aerial is now directly integrated in the holder itself*.

"With the new generation of Nokia mobile holders, we consider design to be every bit as important as function, because many users now like their vehicle's interior fittings to be appealing," says Uwe Pertz General Manager Consumer Products, Nokia Smart Traffic Products. "That's why design plays an increasingly important role when people buy a mobile holder. At the same time, many customers want the mobile holder to provide a good visual match with compatible mobile phones and to harmonise with the rest of the vehicle interior. The new Nokia Mobile Holder CR-21 is a good example, as it has been ideally adapted to match the design of the compatible Nokia 3220 mobile phone."

The new mobile holder concept is compatible with existing Nokia car kit solutions supporting Pop-Port interface such as the Nokia Advanced Car Kit (CK-7W). The integration of this new mobile holder is easy since it is an exact fit for the mounting plate and swivel mount of previous Nokia mobile holder solutions.
The new Nokia mobile holder CR-21 is expected to be available in Europe from late 2004, and subsequently in Asia and the USA.

* Please observe all local regulations on the use of phones in motor vehicles.

Nokia's Connect to Art brings art to mobile phones   Friday, September 17 2004

Connect to Art is a new dimension of art and Nokia's answer to artists' need to find new, innovative channels for artistic expression and ways to reach new and existing audiences by using new methods.

Connect to Art is the result of cooperation with artists and Nokia and launches with a mobile exhibition featuring three Finnish artists, Stefan Lindfors, Osmo Rauhala and Kati Åberg. Each artist has created audiovisual works of art that draw on the advantages of new media and mobile phones as an alternative channel for distributing art and as a unique environment for experiencing it.

Nokia's vision is life goes mobile. In the future, people will create, distribute and consume digital information and entertainment almost anytime and anywhere, each according to their needs. Already today, features such as news, music and games can be enjoyed in a mobile environment. It is only natural that art will go mobile, too.

Connect to Art will first be introduced in Finland. Starting with visual artists, the concept will later expand also into music. Connect to Art will later make its debut outside of Finland where artists from other countries will be joining in.

"Art is one of the longest lasting forms of communication between people. The language of art connects people through beauty, inspiration and creativity. In the sense that Nokia is pushing the limits with new technology, art pushes the limits of the mind. It is, therefore, only natural that Nokia should connect artists with today's new media and consequently with new audiences," said Martin Sandelin, Nokia's senior vice president, corporate marketing, at the mobile exhibition opening ceremony.

"The transistor radio was invented in the 1950s, and suddenly people were able to simply pick up entertainment and carry it with them wherever they went, to the beach, for example. Today, you can enjoy art wherever you are. Art is audiovisual. Art is for you, and it is you who brings my story to life," says Stefan Lindfors, artist.

Artist Osmo Rauhala is equally enthusiastic about the Connect to Art concept. "Art emerged from small symbols, handprints on rocks," he explains. "Over time we have worn our amulets and shaped our tools. Art within a mobile phone is a continuation of the millennial tale. Although the means is new, the purpose remains the same."

According to the artist Kati Åberg, new media artists create art with the tools that shape our time. "The mobile phone is one of the more personal tools we own, but until now it has remained out of art's reach. How joyful it is now to conquer this territory! Mobile phones literally bring art into the palm of your hand, making the experience personal and entertaining. The works of art are close to you, genuinely within reach, right in your breast pocket next to your heart, and you alone can view them and own them," Åberg says.

Connect to Art website can be found at www.nokia.com/art. The works of art can be downloaded to Nokia's 6600, 6620 and 7610 imaging smartpohones. In the future, the artwork can also be enjoyed with other Nokia imaging devices. Art lovers can download their favorite works to their mobile phones directly from the Connect to Art mobile site at www.nokia.com/art/mobile free of charge. The number of downloadable works of art is limited, which is typical in the world of art.

ADBLOG.UK Launches On-line Trading via SMS  Wednesday, September 15 2004

Buyers and sellers of new and used Mp3 players, mobile phones, DVD players and other gadgets are now able to trade with complete security on the UK’s first, fully mobile phone compatible, ‘classifieds’ web site launched today by Adblog UK (Adblog). Adblog sellers use a mobile phone payments system to purchase listing credits whilst buyers receive product alerts and sellers’ contact details via SMS. When used in conjunction with NatWest FastPay, transactions can be completed without any need for the exchange of email or credit / debit card information. FastPay will actually allow members to use their mobile number or email address to initiate payments.

Adblog fees, which are billed directly to the users mobile phone when a text is sent to the Company, are £1.75 for a standard listing and £2.50 for a featured listing shown on the Adblog homepage (http://www.adblog.co.uk/). Once in credit the seller is then free to enter descriptive text and a picture onto the site in one of the specialised categories. Costs for the listing are the same for private sellers and ‘pro retailers’ alike - no further charges are made. Unlike other online classified and auction sites, Adblog does not charge a percentage of the sale price. New sellers wishing to use Adblog can take advantage of a special introductory offer simply by sending an SMS (ADBLOG JOIN to 83248) to the Company. Their account is credited with six ‘featured ad’ 30 day listing credits for just £3.00.

Buyers on Adblog are equally well served and secure. Classified advertisements are attractively presented within a fully searchable database. Users can search the primary Adblog site using a PC, laptop or handheld PC, or a text only version of the site using a ‘WAP’ enabled mobile phone. Optional SMS text alerts can be sent to potential buyers when a product is listed that meets their particular criteria.

When a visitor to the site wishes to make a purchase he or she simply sends a text with a unique product code to Adblog and they receive the sellers contact details back a moment later. Adblog is fully integrated with the Natwest FastPay mobile phone payments system so that neither buyer nor seller needs to reveal any sensitive information to make or accept payments (other payment methods such as Nochex and PayPal are also supported). Transactions completed using NatWest FastPay, do not require any bank or credit account details to be communicated, making the system highly secure. As Adblog does not take any credit card details the entire process is safe, secure & cheaper to implement than Paypal & Nochex. Further highly secure payment options, such as a debit to a fixed line telephone bill, are planned for the future.

Commenting on the launch, Adblog founder Marvin Johnson said, “We set out to build a highly secure mobile phone based trading environment in which buyers and sellers alike could be free from credit or debit card misuse, ‘phishing’ attacks, spoof emails and other fraudulent activity. We believe that with Adblog we’ve created a unique classifieds listing service that allows mobile users to shop with complete confidence – online and on the go!”

ImpactRx has a network of several thousand physicians across the United States who use electronic technology to collect pharmaceutical promotion activity and patient treatment decisions for every pharmaceutical product currently marketed. By providing physicians with a completely mobile device to record prescribing decisions and pharmaceutical sales calls, ImpactRx is able to capture valuable information that helps the pharmaceutical industry develop effective sales and marketing strategies for their products.

Pharmaceutical companies spend about $1.5 billion each year on data to track the prescribing habits of physicians. However, prescription information is not available to the industry for up to four to six weeks after the prescription is written. Industry experts say drug makers have a hard time understanding the interplay between their sales activities and physician prescribing behavior. The Treo 600 with ImpactRx proprietary software enables immediate transmission of this information to the ImpactRx database.

"The Treo 600 is a key element in facilitating the transmission of data from physicians to our database," said Bergin. "It happens almost instantaneously. We are able to produce comprehensive, accurate reports for our customers very rapidly. The Treo 600 keeps us at the cutting edge."

"Competitive research is vital in the pharmaceutical industry, and palmOne is delighted to help ImpactRx address and assist in its research needs," said Gail Moody-Byrd, director of healthcare and general business marketing for palmOne. "The wireless capabilities of the Treo 600 smartphone allow for fast, accurate transfer of data, as well as simplify the process for physicians."

Spb Software House Helps Enterprises to Control Their Pocket PCs with Spb Kiosk 3.0  Tuesday, September 14 2004

Spb Software House announces the release of Spb Kiosk 3, a new version of the famous company-oriented application.

The previous version proved to be a reliable solution that helped more than 100 companies in protecting their enterprise. We have received valuable feedback from our customers, which made it possible to release the new version according to their wishes and requests. Spb Kiosk 3 combines the stability and power of the previous version and the use of new features.

Pocket PCs are more than just simple PDAs - they are richly-featured miniature computers and it's often easy for an employee to get distracted by a game of Solitaire instead of focusing on the enterprise application you designed for them.

Spb Kiosk has the singular goal of locking the target Pocket PC into the mode of being a single-use device. The three different versions of Spb Kiosk address the needs of enterprise deployments in different ways. Spb Kiosk Explorer locks the device into Pocket Internet Explorer, which makes it perfect for Web-based applications, HTML-based demonstrations, and more. Spb Kiosk Explorer also allows you to specify which buttons and menus are shown in the command bar. Spb Kiosk Terminal locks the device into the Terminal Services client, making it an ideal way to access server-based applications over a wireless data network. Spb Kiosk Terminal includes an auto-login feature, making the process seamless for users. Spb Kiosk Engine, the most flexible of the three versions, allows the enterprise to specify custom applications as the focal point for the device.

When Spb Kiosk is deployed, it completely prevents the user from switching away from the target applications. It provides a full screen mode, which can hide the Pocket PC navigation elements, and automatically starts the target application after a soft reset. It can be used with most enterprise applications, and a secret administration mode can be accessed by using a custom-defined hardware key sequence. Once in administration mode, the device can be used as a normal Pocket PC without restrictions - this allows the administrator to configure the application, and then lock it back down into kiosk mode.

"This program has made it very easy to turn our Pocket PCs into instant and reliable demo kiosks. It had no problem working with both the 2002 and 2003 versions of the OS." - Jeremiah Gill, Microsoft.

Spb Kiosk 3 can be downloaded from Spb website:
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/kioskengine

What's new in Spb Kiosk 3? The following are changes in the program that were made after thorough investigation of customer feedback.

1. We found that people often needed to provide access to not just one but to several allowed applications. You will find this possibility in Spb Kiosk 3.

2. Yet more customizable options were added in Spb Kiosk Explorer. You can now show or hide the address bar and/or the context menu.

3. All the bugs found by our customers were fixed. Now Spb Kiosk's power is proven by more than a hundred companies on many thousands of Pocket PC devices.

The new version of Spb Kiosk is offered to users of Spb Kiosk 2 for free.

Connect And Compete To Become The ONE On The N-Gage Platform   Tuesday, September 14 2004

Nokia and Digital Legends Entertainment today announced an exciting addition to the N-Gage games portfolio. ONE is a high-quality, 3-D fighting game set in an urban and real environment. Developed exclusively for the N-Gage platform, ONE extends the fighting game play with cool beat-em-up features, such as extensive character customization and an on-line ranking system.

ONE features numerous customization possibilities. Players can literally create millions of unique fighter characters with different outfits, skin tones, body features and colors. ONE also features numerous single player and local multiplayer modes via Bluetooth wireless technology as well as enhanced N-Gage Arena features. The N-Gage Arena on-line ranking system evaluates fighters not by only the number of wins and losses, but also according to the skill level of individual fighters, such as the complexity, accuracy and power of kicks and punches. The ranking system also takes into consideration how long a player takes to beat an opponent and how much power they have left at the end of a match.

"Working on ONE has been an exciting challenge as we are really pushing the boundaries not only for the N-Gage platform, but also for fighting games in general," says Ralph Lämmche, producer of ONE.

"ONE represents a unique challenger in the fighting game genre," says Pasi Pölönen, Director, Games Publishing, Nokia. "With its stunning graphics, finely tuned fighting engine and real urban locations, ONE provides a highly compelling gaming experience on the N-Gage platform."

ONE takes gamers to real, urban underground locations around the globe. Customized fighters face diverse adversaries with varied fighting skills. The only way to get to the top of the rankings is to challenge fighters around the world, beat them up and capture their skills. ONE is a game of winners and losers. Eventually a true legend is born - the ONE.

"Digital Legends Entertainment, as a Nokia first party title developer, is committed to creating cutting edge content that anticipates the future evolutions of mobile and online gaming," says Xavier Carrillo Costa, CEO of Digital Legends Entertainment.

ONE is expected to hit the stores in May of 2005.

Pathway to Glory Revolutionizes Mobile Gaming With Online Features   Monday, September 13 2004

Nokia announced today additional online features for its critically acclaimed Second World War action-packed strategy game, Pathway to Glory. This exclusive N-Gage game features innovative and unique ways for gamers around the globe to connect, compete, cooperate and communicate in the online multiplayer game mode. Players can either connect to collaborate and compete in a Global Battle Ground via the N-Gage Arena, or set up a local multiplayer game of up to six players via Bluetooth wireless technology.

One of Pathway to Glory's groundbreaking features is the advanced in-game communication system that ensures communication between players and strengthens the co-operation between allies. The Field Radio feature enables gamers to send voice messages to each other during the game, which get transmitted as a though a player's N-Gage game deck was acting as a field radio. This is a world first for mobile gaming and showcases the possibilities that the N-Gage platform provides for game developers. The pre-configured message system allows gamers to use predefined text messages within the game that can then be sent to other players, for example calling for backup or ordering an air strike.

In the Global Battle Ground, players can choose from four different campaigns consisting of 12 extensive multiplayer levels with support for up to 48 soldiers and 16 vehicles in a single battleground. Detail-rich battleground environments range from Sicily and the Rhein to Normandy, with a permanent damage system in place to add an additional level of realism.

"The development team behind Pathway to Glory wanted to bring something truly unique to the market, and we have joined them in going beyond what was previously thought to be possible in a mobile game. We are proud to say that what initially started as an ambitious goal from the developer has now turned into online reality via the N-Gage Arena," says Gerard Wiener, Director, Network Gaming Solutions, Nokia.

Another innovative feature enables gamers to search on-going Pathway to Glory games via the N-Gage Arena and choose which game they want to join. The Go-to-friend feature lets gamers check their N-Gage Arena Buddy List to see which friends are online and then join in the same game that their friends are playing.

Nokia also disclosed that Helsinki-based RedLynx is the developer behind the game. With a handpicked team consisting of experts in game development and cellular networks, RedLynx has delivered an exciting range of revolutionary mobile gaming features.

"Working with Nokia to craft a flagship N-Gage title has been a huge opportunity for us. Nokia's uncompromising focus to create a superior quality product has given us the drive and determination to build the best possible game that we could," says Tero Virtala, CEO of RedLynx.

"We've been impressed with Red Lynx's ability to not only deliver a world class game, but also for their innovation and creativity in making the most of what the N-Gage platform can offer," said Toni Virhiä, Senior Producer, Pathway to Glory. "Their hard work and dedication will ensure that Pathway to Glory will amaze gamers around the world."

Pathway to Glory has two game modes: a Ranked game mode and a Filtered game mode. The Ranked game mode enables gamers to compete based on their Global Military Rank against players of a similar rank. This ensures easy access for casual and beginning gamers to fight against equally skilled opponents. Players advance in the Global Military Ranking System by earning medals and ranks based on personal heroism, co-operation, communication and common success in battleground. The Filtered game mode allows gamers to create a game and choose the level(s) for the battleground, while choosing the number of players and soldiers for each team and defining the length of the turn for both sides.

Pathway to Glory is expected to be in stores in November 2004.

New Nokia Car Handset is ideal for making private in-car phone calls   Tuesday, September 7 2004

Developed for users of the Nokia 610 Car Kit Phone, the new Nokia Car Handset (HSU-4) allows for private conversations by routing calls through the conventional handset rather than through the handsfree speakerphone.* This allows the user to enjoy clear sound quality without disturbing other passengers in the vehicle.

"The handset is a particularly sensible option for people who make frequent phone calls from their vehicle. It is easy to install, convenient to use, and adds a level of privacy not previously possible," said Uwe Pertz, general manager of consumer products, Nokia Smart Traffic Products. "With this product, we have created an accessory that will satisfy the needs of the most demanding users of mobile vehicle communications devices."

"Its feature set, including the integrated GPS receiver, active TFT display and XTHML browser, makes it easier for public safety organizations to carry out their demanding tasks in a timely and accurate fashion. Now, organizations can track their field units' movements and radio users can access and browse critical information quickly and easily. "

The Nokia THR880i will be available in three frequency bands. Deliveries for the 380 and 410 MHz bands will start during the 4th quarter of 2004 and for the 800 MHz band during the 1st quarter of 2005.

Nokia is a leading supplier of TETRA terminals with products delivered to public safety users in more than 20 countries throughout Europe, the Gulf Region, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) is the only open digital trunked radio standard defined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to meet the needs of the most demanding professional mobile radio users.
